DEAFinition, or on the Deaf Community Communication and Culture

Deaf persons in Poland use Polish Sign Language. Its visual characteristics inspired the designer to create a publication focusing on the Deaf community’s culture and communication. The book comes with a set of flashcards that help readers learn the Polish manual alphabet. The designer combined educational content with visual experience to address a need for a better understanding of the Deaf community in society. With an abridged sign language dictionary as well as interactive pop-up elements and colourful foldables, she brings readers closer to the challenges and diversity of the Deaf community in Poland. The publication is targeted at people who are interested in the Deaf culture and want to learn the basics of Polish Sign Language.
