Design 32 provides an overview of what is most interesting in Polish young design taught at eight public art schools in Poland. Each of them has a different curriculum, which translates into a broad spectrum of themes and a multiplicity of design thought and a wealth of forms. At the same time, the competition and the Best Design Diploma exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts show a specific language of young design. A language that is a resultant of the different characters of the participants and their ways of perceiving the world, a language in which functionality is intertwined with aesthetics and a sense of humour helps to disenchant often difficult topics. Every year, Design 32 takes the pulse of young design, catches trends and tendencies and gives strong personalities the chance to showcase their talents.

In all editions, we try to combine the submitted diplomas into certain thematic groups, wanting in fact to create a kind of map that allows us to identify what interests young designers at a given moment, what seems worthy of reflection and transformation into a specific product or a specific concept. Each edition of the review, and thus each set of works, always evokes different emotions and, importantly, shows the strongly active side of design – design that is sensitive to even the slightest changes and deviations.

Of course, the subjects of consideration for graduates are not always new. Very often there are those that have grown into problems that we are still trying to tame. Here, designers point to ready-made solutions or concepts for finding them. Each installment of Design 32 is therefore a story of sorts – a narrative created on the basis of various concepts and different perspectives on a given topic – and finally written in a distinct language.
